Sravu thala varavu (Shark head, skin and meat stir fry with coconut)

Its another fish delicacy from Mahe, Sravu(Shark stir fry) varavu, its a very good side dish. Generally we make sravu curry or fry here is deferent recipe for you all to try.



Ingredients
  • Shark Fish Head 1
  • Shark Fish Skin few
  • Shark Fish pieces few
  • Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Salt 
  • Coconut 1 cup , grated
  • Shallots / small onion 5 -6 nos chopped
  • Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilli 2
  • Curry Leaves 2 sprigs
  • Onion 1 chopped
  • Garlic 4 chopped
  • Ginger 1 piece chopped
  • Green Chilli 4 chopped
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Fenugreek Seed powder 1/4 tsp
  • Salt
Method

Clean shark fish head, skin and few pieces in warm water. Rub nicely the shark skin in warm water so that the rough thing in the skin will go. You can use medium size shark for this recipe. Take a pan and add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt, shark head, shark skin and few pieces with little water and boil. Once the water get absorbed and cooked keep it aside.

Grind coconut and shallots together as a coarse paste. Keep it aside.

Take a medium size pan and heat coconut oil, splutter mustard seeds, then add dry red chilli and curry leaves saute for a minute. Now add chopped ginger and garlic saute for 1 minute. Add chopped onion and saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Add chopped green chilli and saute for 1 minute. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt, saute well. Now add ground coconut mixture and saute for 1 minute. Now add cooked shark head, skin and pieces and combine well, cover and cook in medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes. Open the lid and add fenugreek powder and some more curry leaves coming it well. Put off the flame and serve warm with rice or with roti.

NB: If you don't want to use shark head and skin you can make this dish with only shark meat. If you like little tangy tasty in this dish you can add one small tomato or little tamarind sauce while boiling the fish. Enjoy cooking.
